About This Piece:

About Jean Schlumberger:

Tiffany's celebrated jewelry designer, Jean Schlumberger (1907-1987), was born in Alsace, France. During the 1920s in Paris, Schlumberger's genius was quickly recognized. His original and eclectic designs became the rage among his friends, including Marina the Duchess of Kent and Diana Vreeland. Elsa Schiaparelli, the famed dress designer, engaged him to accessorize her new collections with buttons and costume jewelry.

In 1956, Jean Schlumberger joined Tiffany & Co., where he had the freedom to explore uncharted territory, mixing yellow beryls, amethysts, emeralds, sapphires and aquamarines in mountings of yellow gold to create classic pieces such as the "Bird of Paradise" clip. A great innovator, his translucent paillonné enamel bracelets became a staple of the stylish woman's wardrobe.

Today, Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger designs are found in the collections of museums and individuals worldwide. Tiffany's New York store is the ideal place to see the depth of his collections - visit the case dedicated to his designs on the main floor, and view a selection of his statement pieces on the second floor.
