"I love to put on diamonds and beautiful evening gowns and make my girlfriends upset."- Zsa Zsa Gabor
The famous actress and personality, Hungarian-American Zsa Zsa Gabor, who died in 2016, left us a legacy of humorous quotes about diamonds and jewelry. The actress was married nine times and had many things to say about holding on to her precious baubles, most notably: "I never hated a man enough to give him his diamonds back."
So it's no surprise Gabor had quite a collection. In 2017, Bonhams put perhaps her most eye-catching possession on auction: a stunning Harry Winston rivière necklace, created in 1964. Forty-five diamonds weighing in at 66 carats adorn the piece. The largest diamonds in the center section of the necklace weigh 8.07, 6.34, 6.33, 5.35 and 4.88 carats. The necklace sold for 1.2 million in December.
Recently, another auction featuring Gabor's items brought in nearly one million dollars to the Estate . Our favorite item has to be the "Dah-Ling" diamond necklace.
The diamond necklace, set in 14 carat white gold, was a gift, and was one of Gabor's token phrases (she once said she used the phrase because she just couldn't remember everyone's names). It sold for $20,000.
We will surely miss the star's quintessential Hollywood glamour.
