The Penn State-adjacent jewelry store known as Moyer Jewelers is finally shuttering after 69 years in business. The shop has been well known as a purveyor of Penn State-themed jewerly, often emblazoned with the college's Nittany Lion mascot in a display of local pride. They also worked with miscellaneous fine and bridal jewelry.
The store is holding a going-out-of-business sale that is cutting the price of their inventory by 70%. Moyer Jewelers had spent the last 43 years in the historic Leitzell Building, which was built back in 1925.
Lori Moyer (granddaughter of founder B.P. Moyer) later said in a company statement that “my grandfather loved State College, as do my parents and I. It’s a sad and happy time for us.” Divulging to the local media outlet WTAJ that the reason for the departure was due to a need for a betterment to her quality of life. Moyer explained, “I work a lot of hours, and it’s time for me to try to change that.”
