In an interview with Digital Journal, Model and aspiring fashion Journalist Rebecca Mardikes talks of her role in the fashion industry and more.

When asked about her background in PR and Journalism as well as how she got her start in New York City fashion, Mardikes said, "I was hired as an intern for fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff. While working for her as an Intern, I was offered and worked multiple modeling jobs. That’s how I kicked off my start in both New York City fashion publicist as well as fashion modeling.

"My academic studies in journalism and work work experience as a publicist taught me how to effectively and efficiently work with a variety of agents, create and build relationships with brands and juggle a hectic schedule."

When asked for any advice she would give to girls that are interested in pursuing modeling as well as a full-time degree, Mardikes said, "I say go for both! I am a huge advocate for education. Be sure to stay on top of your academic schedule, communicate with your advisors/professors/agents and aim to have a strong look book by the time you graduate from college."

"My goals as a journalist are to either create my own fashion publication or work as a fashion editor at a publication. My goals as a model are to continue working with wonderful creative fashion brands and launch my own fashion line," said Mardikes when asked about her goals as an industry journalist as well as a model.

When asked for social media tips that young models can use, Mardikes said, "I have so many tips on this! I think social media is a great tool for models to build strong and impactful relationships with fashion, beauty and jewelry brands. I would chat with your agent about this area of the industry, the current opportunities as well as your long-term goals."

"I want to create a charitable organization focused on educating and protecting children. This has always been a deep passion of mine. I began volunteer work on this subject in high school and have continued it ever since," said Mardikes when asked about her goals outside of the fashion industry.
