The Hong Kong gem and jewelry trade show has been pushed from September to later in the autumn season in November. This recent schedule change is due to the continued COVID-19 pandemic. Informa Markets, which is the organizing body of the trade show, Jewellery & Gem World Hong Kong will be taking place on November 9th to the 13th. The event (previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair) will be held at a single venue called AsiaWorld-Expo as opposed to the original two. The latter two places mentioned include the previously named AsiaWorld-Expo and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Sept. 15th to 19th.
Other reasons for the delay include the Hong Kong travel restrictions. These restrictions don't allow any access to Hong Kong for non-residents except from those living in mainland China, Taiwan or Macau. Those restrictions are in place until September 18th.
According to a statement by David Bondi, senior vice president, Asia at Informa Markets, “After careful consideration and a thorough review of all factors impacting JGW in relation to the COVID-19 outbreak, we have decided to organize a more compact fair in one venue this November. This rescheduling was reached with the well-being of our exhibitors, visitors, partners, and colleagues as our top priority.”
Informa has stated that the rescheduling is only a one-time thing. The original September scheduling of the event will go on as normal in 2021 which can allow people to purchase their goods before the holiday season rush.
“We cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of pushing through with JGW this year to provide industry stakeholders the chance to capture orders from potential customers," said Informa regarding the postponement. "We recognize that the spate of show cancellations and postponements in the first half of the year makes the JGW sourcing experience more important than ever for our community. It is the last global sourcing event on the jewelry trade show calendar this year, with the heaviest peak selling season just around the corner.”
Informa also declared a new string of health and safety guidelines for attendees.
