A glimmering pair of earrings just sold for double their estimate at the Sotheby's Spring Auction. The fetching duo by Cindy Chao The Art Jewel's "The Maple Earrings" sold for $175,000 USD.

The earrings feature over 26 carats of yellow and white diamonds on two beautiful and delicate maple leaves.

Cindy Chao The Art Jewel was established in 2004, and has been worn by celebrities across the globe, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Ivanka Trump and Li Bingbing, pictured below in a similar creation by the brand.

Cindy Chao studied in New York at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Gemological Institute of America before returning to her home country. Perhaps her quintessential moment came when she became the first Asian jeweler to have a piece inducted into the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum’s permanent collection, a butterfly brooch called The Black Label Masterpiece Royal Butterfly Brooch.

She then went on to design a one-of-a-kind butterfly brooch with friend Sarah Jessica Parker that sold for $1.2 million dollars at a Sotheby's auction in Hong Kong and benefited The New York City Ballet.

We are dazzled and impressed by Cindy Chao's ability to create unique pieces in a very saturated industry with contemporary designers having less success than larger houses.

We look forward to seeing what Cindy Chao The Art Jewel has in store in future years!
