Brilliant Earth is an eco-conscious luxury brand with its eyes towards a better future, as its latest piece demonstrates. It was founded in 2005 by Beth Gerstein, whose search for an engagement ring became a mission to enact social change within the jewelry and mining industries. The company donates 5% of its net profits to mining communities, aims to prevent workplace abuse and establish responsible mining practices as well as invests in skill development for the youth. All of Brilliant Earth's latest initiatives and successful projects can be found on its website.
The latest cause that Brilliant Earth has advocated for is the Amazon Rainforest. The Amazon Rainforest Diamond pendant was debuted this week to raise awareness of the effects of climate change as well as the destruction of the rainforest itself. In order to combat these two issues, ten percent of each necklace sold, which is $15 per sale, will be donated to an environmentally conscious nonprofit. Each Amazon Rainforest Diamond pendant goes for $150 and is designed after a birds-eye view of the Amazon River.
While the piece of jewelry is notably beautiful in aesthetic as well as in what it represents, there is a gap of space that the company's website denotes is "...the undetermined future that we have the power to change.”
In a statement to JCK, cofounder and co-CEO of Brilliant Earth, Beth Gerstein said, “The destruction of the rainforest is one of the more pressing environmental issues we’re facing today. Rainforest Alliance has been committed to environmental conservation since its inception, and the current fires taking place in the Amazon underscore that its work is more important than ever.”
“We’re excited to partner with a like-minded organization that’s passionate about making a positive change in our world," she continued, "and we hope that in working together, we can more effectively raise awareness and inspire action around this critical issue.”
