Signet Jewelers is the world's largest diamond jewelry retailer. Today, the company has announced that it has achieved a spot on the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index among 325 others. The index doesn't stop at jewelry either, with other businesses from 50 industries taking their place in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI).
"For the second-consecutive year, Signet is proud to be one of the select few named to the Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index for efforts to advance women in the workplace," said Chief Executive Officer, Virginia C. Drosos. "We work every day to ensure that our team members feel included, respected, and empowered when they come to work to create an environment where all feel comfortable and encouraged to unleash their full potential. We have created growth opportunities for thousands of women at all levels of our organization, and our commitment to this mission is unwavering."
The social data retrieved on Signet from the 2020 Bloomberg GEI contains numbers since the retailer's 2018 Fiscal Year (February 2017 - January 2018). As of today, Signet's executive team, including their CFO and CEO, seven out of the twelve are women. It has also been revealed that Signet's board of directors has achieved the same parity.
"The 325 companies included in the 2020 GEI have shown their commitment to transparency and demonstrated leadership in gender-related data reporting," said the Chairman of Bloomberg, Peter T. Grauer. "Disclosure of company statistics and practices is an important first step in supporting gender equality globally."
The GEI is not a financial benchmark but is often used as a reference index, encouraging public companies to be transparent with their supplemental gender data.
