Connecticut-based jewelry designer Linda Hoj was presented the 2019 Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year award at JA New York's spring trade show on Monday. The skills she has shown in the craft have earned her such a distinction, creating collections that are often made of 22-karat gold. Hoj's aesthetic is usually harkening back to ancient jewelry, melding it seamlessly with a modern perspective.

Her philosophy on the use of 22-karat gold boils down to the metal eventually showing “the hallmarks and glow of everyday wear.”

As Hoj accepted the Mort Abelson award at the Javits Center Monday, she expressed her gratitude, saying “This is amazing. This is beyond amazing. Thank you all for everything. You’ve all been so supportive and I appreciate you so much.”

She and seven other burgeoning designers made their debut splash at the trade show this year in the New Designer Gallery at JA New York Spring. The show took place from Sunday to Tuesday at the Javits Center in Manhattan.
